Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, launched a blistering attack on the Samrat Choudhary-led government on Tuesday, alleging that criminals “protected and nurtured by those in power” have unleashed terror upon women across Bihar.

To support his claim, the RJD leader presented a date-wise account of 50 incidents involving serious atrocities against women, including rape and sexual assault, from across the state. He alleged that “not a single day passes” without incidents of rape, abuse, or murder of women being reported in Bihar.

“This does not include cases of molestation,” he pointed out.

Addressing the media in Patna, Tejashwi alleged that the government was encouraging police atrocities against a particular caste and questioned why no rapist had been “encountered” so far.

“No matter which party or ideology you belong to, if you continue to stand with the government despite its failure to stop rape and sexual assault against women, then you are not a sensitive human being. Humanity is not alive in you. You may continue to support this government only until some tragedy happens to one of your own loved ones,” he said.

Tejashwi also questioned when justice would be delivered in the Muzaffarpur Balika Grih scandal case.

He further stated that not only women’s safety but also their health was being neglected in Bihar. Claiming that 65 per cent of women in the state suffer from anemia, he said many were not even receiving nutritious food.

He also alleged injustice against “Jeevika Didis,” claiming that even gas cylinders were not being provided to them.

Announcing a statewide agitation, Tejashwi said the Rashtriya Janata Dal would launch movements and protests “from the legislature to the streets” to ensure justice for women and to raise issues concerning public interest.
